The Carver hosts an exhibit of exquisite handmade batiks by Nigerian print and textile artist Tunde Odunlade. Gallery hours: M-F, 8-4:30, and two hours before season performances. Free admission. Odunlade has exhibited, taught, lectured, studied and traveled extensively within Nigeria and throughout Africa, North America, and Europe. In addition, he has performed as an actor with the Nigerian National Troop and various other theatrical organizations, and has recorded several CDs that integrate poetry and music. The Carver’s eight-week Saturday morning arts and culture classes are a great way for kids, individuals, couples and families to stay active, learn a new skill, strengthen talents, socialize and have fun! The Clothesline Muse is a devised theatrical production originally conceived as dance by Dr. Kariamu Welsh and developed into an evening length multi discipline theatrical piece with collaborators Nnenna Freelon and Maya Freelon Asante. The intergenerational story is centered around Grandma Blu, an elderly washerwoman and storyteller, and her 26 year old granddaughter Mary Mack. Our three-week day camp is full of fun and opportunity for all wannabe actors, regardless of experience! It features two concurrent tracks – Camp Red (ages 7-10) and Camp Blue (ages 11-18) – with each group producing its own stage show.
